Lefkada is the fourth island of the Ionian Sea in terms of size. A regular road connects the island to the mainland (Sterea Ellada prefecture), making it easily accessible to visitors and saving you both time and money.

The City of Lefkada is an inspiring cultural and historic heritage, offering narrow alleys, traditional multi-colored houses, and numerous churches with unique icons. The city is surrounded by a canal and the impressive modern Marina (serving up to 500 boats) is situated to the east.

At a distance of 5km, the view from Iera Moni Faneromenis monastery (Panagia Faneromeni is the patron saint of the island) is stunning: you see all at once the island's capital, Ai-Giannis beach, Myloi, and the whole Gyra area.

In Lefkada you get the unique opportunity to take part in the festivities of the Holy Easter: In the city, the Epitafios procession (the bier of Christ, decorated with gold cloth and fresh flowers, is paraded through the streets) on the evening hours of the Good Friday is accompanied by small-scale (each church has its own) church choirs singing and the music of the local Philharmonic orchestra (founded in 1950; one of the first in the country).

The climaxing of the Holy Week is the “first” Resurrection on the morning hours of the Holy Saturday, where each local woman breaks a “part”, and completes on the Midnight hours. So, the fact that every year “SOFIA” Hotel opens its doors for visitors on the days of the Holy Easter is not a coincidence at all.

Each summer many tourists are delighted to visit the Word and Art Festivities and the International Folk Festival, both in August, with a history of 54 and 47 years respectively.

For sports and outdoor activities enthusiasts, the island offers many options: internationally-known surfing spots (Ai-Giannis beach and Ponti beach, in Vassiliki), ideal wind conditions for kite-surfing, safe conditions for deep sea diving, trekking and mountain-biking on mountain slopes and valleys. Lefkada is also one of the best and safest destinations for sailing and inflatable boats fans.
